Credo ut intelligam, intellego ut credam: Day of Atonement-2009AD

Today, Jews all over the world celebrate Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement. This is the holiest and most solemn of the Jewish holidays. This holiday is observed with an intensive prayer and fast throughout the whole day, with most of the day time spent in synagogues.

The aim for one on this day is to seek God and ask Him for forgiveness of his/her transgressions, both towards God and others. In the evenings, they have a public and private petitions and confessions of guilt. When the day ends, one is considered self-absolved by God.

However, with it's enemies hell-bent on destroying her, Israel has been put on a high alert. Learning from the lessons of 1973, when the Arab armies consisting of Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Iraq attacked her on Yom Kippur and caught the Israelis off-guard. Although they eventually managed to hold and then defeat the combined Arab armies, they do not want to repeat the mistakes of that fateful day and thus, Israel has been put on high alert for this year's Yom Kippur.

The reason? The heighten tension in the Middle-East, with the Iran-Syria Alliance, plus the constant threat of their proxy, the terrorists groups like Hamas, Hezbollah etc at her doorsteps. Add to the ambitious Iranian nuclear program and the recent announcement of the existence of Iran's second nuclear enrichment site.

However, there is another reason that keeps Israelis, Jews, Zionists, Christian Zionists and pro-Israelis very worried. The current president of the United States of America, President Barack Obama, has proved to be non-supportive of Israel and has made a lot of decisions that are very anti-Israel.

Adding to that, many nations just sit by while Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the President of Iran, continued his anti-Semitic rant and denied the Holocaust had ever happened during the recent UN General Assembly. This shows that many nation's apathy towards Israel.

For today, let us pray for the peace and security of the State of Israel. Let us also pray for her enemies, for the poor people who are deceived and brainwashed by their leaders. Pray also for their leaders that God will open their eyes to see the Light.
