It's Eskrima/Kali, Not Krav Maga!!!!!

Ok it's confirmed. After stumbling upon some videos on YouTube, I 'discovered' that the martial art employed by Jason Bourne is Eskrima/Kali, the Filipino stick/sword martial art and my second favourite martial art, after the Israeli Krav Maga.

Can't believe that it's just under my nose. Little did it cross my mind that whilst I was writing about Eskrima/Kali for my Journalism 2 assignment, this martial art is the one employed by Jason Bourne.

From what I remember from my assignment(where's the soft copy?), Eskrima/Kali originated in the Phillipines. No one knows who invented this form of fighting, unlike Krav Maga(Imi Lichtenfeld)and Jeet Kune Do(Bruce Lee).

Anyway, the basic skills of this martial art is traditionally simplified, making it easier to be taught en mass to villagers and allowing them to master it in a short while. It is usually employed to defend against foreign invaders and other villagers.

Historically, it is believed that Ferdinand Magellan was killed in the Battle of Mactan in 1521 by natives, using Eskrima/Kali.

It is widely believed to be effective against knife attacks, hence Eskrima/Kali and Krav Maga being highly popular nowadays to provide some measure of defence against armed muggers.

If its possible, I'm so going to purchase Imi Lichtenfeld's book and a Eskrima/Kali book :-p

Anyway here's two videos of Eskrima/Kali being employed in the Bourne Trilogy. Enjoy :-)
